Thankful Things Thursday

Wow, it's been awhile since I've done one of these posts! My week usually gets infinitely busier towards the end of the week, so posting on Thursday doesn't always happen. But we had a thunderstorm this morning that woke me up at 6 am, and running in the rain wasn't an option, so...I made some coffee earlier than usual and now we're going to be thankful! Let's go!

I'm thankful for the rain! It's been raining on and off for the past couple of days and we certainly need it here. It's made my commute a bit of a challenge, but I love waking up to the sound of rain. Does anyone else feel this way about rain? Or is it something you just kind of tolerate because you have no choice?

I'm thankful for the season premiere of my absolute favorite TV show tonight:

It's a summer TV series that comes on USA. My friend Logan got me hooked on it last summer, and when Lauren and I weren't working last fall, we ended up laying in bed for an entire day and watched the entire season. I went ahead and bought the DVD's so Ryan could get hooked, too! I really do love this show. The guys are cocky and sarcastic and funny. Ryan thinks the plot is a little predictable, but who cares? The fact that I am willing to follow a TV show is saying a lot (I haven't watched a show consistently in years)! Tune in tonight at 10 - let me know what you think!

I'm thankful I discovered the most amazing farmer's market last week. Someone at work was telling me about a state-run farmer's market nearby that stays open everyday, year round. I've lived here for 10 months now and had no idea this place existed. I went Friday afternoon after work and it was love at first sight.

I got a huge selection of veggies (tomatoes! corn! okra! squash!) for less than $10. I wanted to buy more but I knew Lauren would kill me when I realized it wouldn't all fit in the fridge...

I'm planning on hitting the farmer's market downtown Greenville on Saturday. I've been meaning to go for awhile, but usually the weekends are filled with activities. I have no plans on the calendar for the first weekend in awhile (minus Father's Day) so I'm going to check it out. A friend had some delicious goat cheese she had bought at the market a few weeks ago and I'm dying to get my hands on another tub of the spread (it had honey in it)! My spoils will probably be evident in a few new recipe posts coming up!

I'm thankful for the opportunity to donate blood. We're having a blood drive at work today, and I'm really hoping to donate. Last time I tried to give, my blood pressure was too high and they turned me away. I think I got a little too nervous and was overthinking the whole process the last time. I've given blood successfully once before in college, so I know I can do it! I'm a universal donor, so they need me! Here's to hoping I don't pass out!

I'm thankful for cheap(er) gas. Enough said.

I'm thankful for cute puppies. A man sitting next to us at happy hour last Friday had 3 huge puppies (bernese mountain dog, husky, and a saint bernard). They were already bigger than me and weren't full grown. They were pretty fluffy and cute to watch while we all agreed what a pain it would be to vaccuum up all that hair! But poor doggies, they were dying from the heat!

I'm thankful I got to have lunch at the Esso yesterday. If you've never heard of The Esso Club, check it out! It's history is important to Clemson, and it's been the subject of dozens of magazine articles and even a tailgating special on ESPN. They have a huge outdoor patio and a meat & three menu for lunch Monday-Friday. It's impossible to get a seat on the Friday before a home football game, but trust me, it's worth the wait. I can't tell you how many Friday afternoons in grad school were spent at the Esso. It's where we went to celebrate the finish of every CPA exam, too. We were at a client semi-nearby for work, and I begged the senior (also a Clemson alum) to make the 20 minute drive so we could eat there for lunch. What a flood of memories! It makes me miss college a little. Okay, a lot. Lunch was worth every single calorie, just for the walk down memory lane!

Last but not least, I'm thankful for sunsets. Shocking, I know. Are y'all getting tired of pictures of the sky yet? Too bad. They're here to stay!

Off to get ready for another day at work! Hope everyone has a good one!

Thankful Things Thursday

Well, it's that time again! Time to start being thankful! Work has been especially slow this week (see ya busy season). Not sure if I'm adding that to the list of things I'm thankful for yet or not...Moving on.

I'm thankful for date nights. Usually Ryan and I are both busy after work from eating, working out, to working late, we sometimes don't get to see each other until 9:30 pm or later, if at all. So on Tuesday, I promised to cook him dinner (pork chops w/pineapple fried rice, obviously). I managed to get home from work and the grocery store early, so I even whipped us up some appetizers! Okay, so maybe "whipping up" isn't the right term. I sliced the cheese and poured the wine and put it on a pretty plate. :)

.

I'm thankful for this little purchase at Target. Seriously, how cute are these? Mini Luna bars? I had no idea they even existed.

.
I'm thankful for rainy evenings in my pajamas. It rained all day yesterday. Perfect nap weather. Unfortunately, a nap wasn't in the cards because of a little thing called work. So instead, when I got home from work and the gym, I put on my pjs at 7 pm, got in bed with a bowl of popcorn, and crossed 2 movies off my "to see" list (Breakfast at Tiffany's and The Fighter).

I'm thankful for tax refunds. It makes it a little better that the government is giving me a smidge of the money I earned back to me. I'm also thankful I didn't have to do my own tax return. Worst accountant ever? Probably. Sorry I'm not sorry.

I'm thankful for having the greatest nachos in the world for lunch (this may just be my personal opinion..jury's still out). One of the greatest things about working downtown is being able to walk somewhere for lunch. When we're all in the office (which is rare for us traveling audit people), we always get a group together. I've been in the office for the past two weeks, and I've actually been thankful to go home for lunch (so much cheaper and healthier). But after the "official end of busy season," we decided to splurge. Enter Chicora Alley. An extremely underrated, amazing restaurant/bar. I realize that this picture looks a little gross. But trust me, it was delicious. And yes, I ate every.last.bite. Chicora makes their own salsas, including a grape salsa, mango salsa, corn salsa, and guacamole. On a related note, I could eat nachos all the time. I even ate them for dinner on both Friday and Saturday two weekends ago. Oops.

I'm thankful for $1 beer night at the Drive stadium. Yes, that's where I'm headed on this lovely 75 degree evening. Put a Strawberry Abita in my hand on the porch while writing this post before I leave and you have one happy girl.

I hope everyone has things to be thankful about today, too! There's usually ALWAYS something!

I think I'm going to shake this post up a bit. Thankful Things Thursday

Hello there! I've been a bit MIA this week, but for good reason. Bobby's dad's funeral was on Tuesday in Aberdeen, MS, and I wouldn't have missed it for the world. The trip was a whirlwind. Jordan, Michael, Ryan, and I pulled out of Greenville at 10 pm Monday night. We drove 5 hours to Jasper, AL to crash at a hotel. We slept about 3 hours and were back up again to shower and hit the road. We got to the church about 2 hours before the funeral. We spent some time with the family and it was great to see them and hug them all. The funeral was a great testament to Mr. Dale's life and what a great man he was (I, of course, bawled through the entire thing). After the burial, we joined the family for lunch. I'm so happy we got to give everyone a big hug and express our love and sympathy for them. We were back on the road by 2 pm and pulled back into Greenville 24 hours after we had left. I've been catching up on sleep ever since!
But on to regularly scheduled blog programming (which will probably be a very short post)!

I'm thankful for birddogs. For everyone wondering what the heck a birddog is, let me explain. It's one of the best foods ever. There's a restaurant in Anderson called JC's which makes the ultimate birddog. A chicken tender in a hotdog bun, toasted with cheese and bacon, and covered in honey mustard. Y.U.M. In case you're having a hard time picturing this, don't worry, I managed to get a picture before I scarfed it down.

I'm thankful for thunderstorms. We've had lots of rain showers in the afternoon this week, and it's given me a perfect excuse to climb in bed when I get home from work. Which reminds me...

I'm thankful for my bed. From Thursday to Tuesday, I slept in a different bed every single night. Insane. I was so exhausted from not sleeping before the funeral, I climbed in bed last night at 8:30 and I'm not ashamed to say I was in my pajamas by 6 tonight.

I'm thankful for weekends. And this weekend can't come soon enough. It's also Easter! I'm going to enjoy the Masters on tv and take naps and sleep in on Saturday! During busy season, the weekend was just another opportunity to work (yuck) so I'm back to taking full advantage of my Saturdays!

I'm thankful for quotes. I love them actually. I have a word document on my computer where I save all my favorites. Just when I needed something uplifting on Tuesday, I saw this on Facebook: "I was sure by now, God, you would have reached down, wiped our tears away, stepped in and saved the day. But once again, I say 'Amen' and it's still raining. And as your mercy falls, I raise my hand and praise the God who gives and takes away."

I'm also 100% thankful for my friends and family. I'd be lost without them. There has been such an outpouring of love and support this week and it reminds me just how lucky I am. God blessed me with an incredible support system when things are tough.

I'm glad you hung around for this semi-sad post today. Hopefully recharging my batteries this weekend will have me back to normal! Until next time!

Thankful Things Thursday

Happy Thursday! One of my favorite blogs, Ali on the Run, does a weekly post titled "Thankful Things Thursday." I think this will be a great way to take some time each week to be thankful for the little things. They can be silly or legitimate. Either way, it'll be fun for me to reflect back on these posts when I need a pick-me-up!

First, I'm thankful for working 4 10 hour days this week. How has the rest of the business world not caught on to this phenomenon?! I could get so many things done if I had one extra day during the week. And 3-day weekends every weekend? YES PLEASE!

I'm thankful I'll be waking up at the beach tomorrow morning. Litchfield Beach is one of my favorite places. It's perfect for relaxing in the hammock and soaking up the sun. Nothing beats a day on the beach. Hoping for beautiful weather!

I'm thankful for my health. While I've dealt with some random pesky injuries (my hip) during the past couple of months, I'm glad I'll be able to put one foot in front of the other and run this race on Saturday. Sometimes it is easy to lose sight of the fact that some people don't even have the ability to run. One of my dear dear friend's father is fighting a battle with cancer each day, so I run every mile and pray for him. It gives me the strength to keep going.

I'm thankful for popcorn. Everyone who knows me knows that I consider it a favorite food. I eat it for meals all the time. In grad school, I lived off of popcorn for lunch or as a snack in the library. I have made trips to Target specifically for the $1 popcorn combo. Can't beat it! I rekindled my love when I ate popcorn for dinner last night. I'm not ashamed! :)

I'm thankful for sleeping with the windows open. While Lauren and I live on a pretty busy street and the noise is sometimes bothersome, I love sleeping with the windows open this time of year. We managed to skip spring and go straight to summer. We even broke a few records with the high temperatures recently! I'm cold-natured, so give me 80 degrees and sunny everyday and I'll be an extremely happy girl.

Hello nice weather!
And last but not least, I'm thankful (actually, excited) for my new Tervis water bottle. I've always loved Tervis cups but the water bottle is a great addition to my collection! The ice doesn't melt for a solid 5 hours and the bottle doesn't sweat AT ALL! It's going to be great on the beach!

Well, I'm headed out for the road trip to the beach. 5 hours in the car calls for lots of snacks! Hope you all had a great day! Almost the weekend!
